Rock & Roll 03:49
rock & roll made me lose control so i can’t hear you anymore & the way that i see it is that i’m making up my mind each time i’m on the line the music’s playing through it’s true that it’s all that i got going don’t know what else i’d do my life felt like a mystery i couldn’t speak at all i let the days grow long & as i fell into a deeper hole where fictions grow it made it harder for me to know where all the silence goes as we’re waking slowly to a brand new opening & if only there was just one way we could have seen the realest part of this whole identity it’s the strangest thing that we pre-conceive the truths we seek & we see them in dreams we see them in everything as we breathe consume & sleep into another day four horses & the devil awake four horses & the devil wakes me crouching a constant hum like a daydream unmoving & turning into a shape on the wall & there is no one who can save us from ourselves & the bleating country skies open in moonlight
2.
Dog Country 02:23
i found a big black dog near the river she was sleeping near the pines by the oxbow & she made it easy on me ran off in the way of the stream & i heard her family call as i kept up walking on my way to a different country as i saw the deep wide sky stand before me all this confusion made my heart grow fonder it seems there is only one thing that i am ought to glean there are all kinds of ways that we wind up walking on our way to a different type of country i’ve gone away to a different type of country & they’ve made it easy on me ran off with my bag & my things i’ve no choice but only to keep up walking on my way to a different type of country
3.
Me & May 02:17
me & may i have to say that we have found another way was nice to see you for a while & someday soon we’ll all be cloudy & gay again waking up on a hazy afternoon drifting straight into a dream with only good things waking up on a big blue moon drinking your horsey’s gasoline with only good things i always say that it’s ok that there is always another day to write your song into the world but there are two worlds - the one you’re making every day & the one that always gets away so just sing your silly song & someday soon we’ll all be waking up on a hazy afternoon drifting straight into a dream with only good things waking up on a big blue moon drifting straight into a dream that your daddy dreamed you’d dream - let us always be on the boldest side of history
4.
i am leaving you there was just nothing that we could do because when i finally kissed them the whole world returned to blue & now when i’m on the road i feel the whole world if you’d open up your eyes you’d see how everything’s all wrong & you’d get to moving on
5.
where is the mystery where is my subject where is my cold black river & how do i get there i know i sing to forget i sing to hold my breath to feel the thumping in my chest but sometimes there is nothing to speak of the breath is revealing is it hot no the flame is damp there is no sound no other’s hand & i’m not that kind of man no i just want to dance & looking back over my life lord i’ve seen that fire die but only to become kindling tape deck kids on the street are singing songs while waiting in the car there was no reason for me not to love you & i do but not the way you wanted me to i’ve been making up all of these things to do & i’m always on the move so i’ve been trying to get back to that mystery plane there is always another way & this river is never-ending & there is just nobody to drink it away
6.
been thinking about the old days more & more the pettiness of my life & the way it was if i speak to you through a dream would you hear me across this lonesome country across the great divide over the people trying to get by i used the venue wifi i checked my email twice as i sat & cried the singer from the other band asked if i was alright & they sat with me a while in the cool dark country & there it seemed that we were going to be linked forever in a deeper understanding of the ways we’ve been moving around the ways we think about ourselves in this moment in all the years gone by in all the people that we pass by in what might happen if we actually looked them in the eye & as i write this down i could feel it all now the words rush in a moment & the part of my life that’s kept me hiding inside has died & the soul in my heart is always hungry & i’m lost in the deep wide country i don’t hear nothing but silence now i don’t hear nothing but silence now i don’t hear nothing but silence now i don’t hear nothing i don’t hear nothing but silence now i don’t hear nothing but silence now i don’t hear nothing but silence now i don’t hear nothing been thinking about the old days more & more the pettiness of my life& the way it was if i speak to you through a dream would you hear me i’ve broken nothing but silence now i’ve broken nothing but silence now i’ve broken nothing but silence now i’ve broken nothing i’ve broken nothing but silence now & i don’t hear nothing but the leaves on the ground & i’m picking up rocks i’m picking up the pieces i’ve broken nothing & the song goes on & on

Benji 02:07
benji don’t eat much but he drinks some water & when he tells the truth i love him like a daughter & when we go outside the whole world cries “benji where are you headed to tonight?” he says “i don’t really care i just wanna get there” & when we’re on the road i feel the whole world & i don’t know why ( you know i bleed for you, it’s all i ) the whole world cries ( no matter how i try, can’t get you ) the whole world cries ( & when i sleep at night ) “benji where are you headed to tonight?” “i don’t really care i just wanna get there” & when we go outside the whole world cries “benji where are you headed to tonight? ( i can’t sleep without you by my side )”

Fallin' Rain 03:48
i didn’t know if i could keep this going these days i only hear the fallin’ rain & it goes on i didn’t know if i could keep on listening the fallin’ rain is like a rhythmic chain that beats me clean & i am proud to be so dirty fuck the world it’s gone insane & i have lost it all in the deepest heartache i have lost it all i found a word for all this rolling country to load it up & bathe it in it’s twisted history i didn’t know if i could pull it’s trigger these rolling hills are like a hypnic song a violent dream & i am all always thinking how could i become so clean to wash myself of all this hopeless heartache to just wash it all
9.
Absurdity 04:49
the absurdity is mine & i hold it tight & i want everyone to see it from my eyes: that golden shine, cross the country wide that i always knew would be falling from the lips of the lord into the crucible of history - which is always burning brightly, which is heated in the god damn country, stoked by satan - & we are all on our own. there is no kindness, there is only violence & smartphones. i’m standing in the country & i’m about to be three miles up a trail, looking down there’s like a deep green sea of trees, the clouds pass over & my knees get weak. oh and driving through this country i’ve seen the life that surrounds oh the wifi abounds i feel a deep heart break & a longing i almost forgot what it means to be standing in this country i drew a gun from the ground locked it up and shot a round i felt my phone buzz tenderly i heard the notification ding it was a complicated mess of history it was a mystery it was absurd & it was inhuman to me standing in the country breathing true absurdity but i guess this means that i can be a part of the ever-unfolding daydream

Turn to Blue 01:09
i held true for longer than i was supposed to do & all these things just turned to blue in front of you shifting easily in the morning light until it’s time
